Giovanni Capannelli promoted to Godan

Posted 2009 January 14

Giovanni Capannelli, founder of Tada-Juku Manila and a leading personality in the Filipino Federation of Aikido, has been promoted to Godan (5th dan). Capannelli Sensei's promotion was announced at the Kagamibiraki ceremony at Hombu Dojo in Shinjuku on 2009 January 11.

In the Aikido world, promotions up to Yondan (4th dan) are earned through examinations. After Yondan, there are no more exams. For Aikidoists under the organizational umbrella of Japan Aikikai (World Aikido Headquarters) in Tokyo, promotions beyond this level are granted by Moriteru Ueshiba Doshu, grandson of Aikido founder O-Sensei Morihei Ueshiba, in recognition of an Aikidoist's contributions to the propagation of Aikido and serious pursuit of personal excellence.

The Makati Aikido Club community salutes Capannelli Sensei for this well-deserved recognition.
