Photos of New Year's Eve Practice 2009

Sixteen diehards kept alive a now 25-year-old MAC tradition by attending our New Year's Eve Practice. Participants savoured a pleasant surprise: a newly refurbished all-white mat in an all-white dojo, work on which had started just days earlier, on Christmas Eve. With an imminent addition of new matting, the dojo will soon be expanded to nearly 100 square meters.

MAC Chief Instructor Dam Amaranto led the 120-minute keiko.

A note about the photos:

We were fortunate to have with us that day a new student, Eric Diņo, who's a professional photographer, and member Ruel Abion, a skilled hobbyist photographer. Eric and Ruel both brought large-caliber digital SLRs. Eric took a few hundred available-light action shots from session's start to finish. Ruel took a few pictures at the end of the session.

Eric's and Ruel's photo skills and patience have given us a rare opportunity to present coherent documentation of an entire 120-minute class, from opening bow to final dojo cleaning. This may be of some interest to people who may be thinking of taking up Aikido and are curious about what goes on in a typical class.
