On the Beginner's Mind
MAC Teaching Philosophy
The concept of “beginner’s mind” (shoshin) is central to MAC’s teaching culture. A beginner’s mind is one that is open, eager, and free from preconceptions. In aikido, even an advanced practitioner benefits from approaching a technique as if encountering it for the first time — looking for new subtleties, new implications, new depths.
The MAC’s philosophy holds that the moment a practitioner believes he or she has “mastered” a technique is the moment progress stops. Mastery is a direction, not a destination.

Come and watch a class.
Simply show up 15 minutes before any scheduled class and introduce yourself to the instructor or to anyone who appears to know his way around. They will take care of you from that point. That is all.
