Some things happen
every year, without fail.
For more than forty years running, MAC has closed every year the same way it began: with a New Year's Eve practice from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on December 31st. The tradition has never broken — not even during the pandemic, when it moved to Zoom rather than skip a year. The tradition was interrupted only by the COVID lockdown of 2020 - 2022.
This New Year's Eve keiko follows a similar, obviously older, tradition at Japan Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Shinjuku, Tokyo. At Hombu Dojo, the New Year keiko starts at 2300hrs on December 31 and ends at 0100hrs on January 1.
Seminars & Gradings
Practice extends
beyond the weekly class.
Beyond the regular week, MAC members take part in seminars with visiting instructors, an annual gathering in Cebu, and periodic training trips to Japan — the kind of ongoing exchange that keeps a dojo connected to the wider Aikikai community rather than practicing in isolation.
Rank promotions follow the same unhurried spirit as everything else here: they happen when an instructor judges a student ready, not on a fixed calendar. Sensei Reyes himself was promoted to 7th Dan by the Aikikai Foundation after decades on the mat — a reminder that in Aikido, grading marks a long process, not a milestone to rush toward.
There's no seminar or grading calendar confirmed while the dojo is closed for renovation. Once one is set, it will be posted here — in the meantime, the club's Facebook page is the fastest way to hear about upcoming dates.

Simply show up 15 minutes before any scheduled class and introduce yourself to the instructor or to anyone who appears to know his way around. They will take care of you from that point. That is all.
